For my 80s birthday party I was able to repurpose many of the things I had used for my 70s party the year before, let's see together how I actually did it.

THE DECORATIONS

Here's some of the main decor elements I came up with:

1 - The photobooth

If you remember last year's floral backdrop, you'll immediately recognize my giant DIY pegboard behind those pretty sprinkle balloons. I followed this tutorial by Oh Happy Day and simply sticked the balloons on the pegboard with some paper tape. I added a tropical plant by Ikea and of course my bluetooth remote along with my smartphone, so that my guests could take pictures of themselves all night long (see that Lionel Richie quote?). Next to the photobooth I placed a clothesrack full of 80s inspired garments and accessories, and voilà, the photobooth area was complete.

2 - The lighting

This was a key element for the perfect 80s mood: I opted for two coloured lightbulbs (a shocking pink one and an electric blue one) which really made a huge difference with such little effort. My second project actually took some time, and it was neon lettering. I bought two led wires and glued them on two different pieces of wood (leftovers from my new Ikea wardrobe): it was both difficult to write "happy birthday" and "Eleonora" in cursive with the wire, as well as finding the right glue for the two materials to stick together, but in the end the result was incredible. I'll probably repurpose them for all my future birthday parties, since they look so awesome!

3 - Balloons & co.

Lastly, I filled some clear ballons with colourful confetti and used some long balloons to create an "80s" banner to place on top of the table. I also scattered some cassettes and an old phone and a walk-man around the living room, to give it an authentic vibe.

In the next post I'll show you how I decorated the table, and most importantly the drinks I prepared for the party!
